Job Hunting

21Apr07

I’m finally finished the one year Interactive Multimedia program at Algonquin College. Yesterday at 3:00pm I completed an e-commerce web site for a combined final project in my Dynamic Scripting for the Server and Rich Media Applications classes. It was a great learning experience.

Now it’s time to find a job. Because there are so many different paths to take within this field, I felt that I would benefit most by concentrating on the school work while in school and start searching for a job at the completion of the program. This way I would have a better idea of what I would like to focus on when searching for a job.

I am excited to start working. I am confident that the skills I have developed over the past year combined with my undergrad in math and 10 years of experience in the interactive media product manufacturing industry will contribute to the success of a company. It’s exciting to know that I have chosen an industry that is moving in a positive direction and that I feel passionate about being a part of. I am looking forward to new challenges in my new career path.

Mac vs. PC

22Mar07

I have been a Microsoft Windows user my whole life and decided to switch over to a mac. I just received my new iMac on monday and I can’t seem to get away from it. I switched over to a Mac for a few reasons. One big reason is that it seems people that own Mac’s love them. I’ve been hearing for years that Mac’s are so much better than Window’s based PC’s, so I figured I would join the revolution.

Looking back on the last few months as I was debating the Mac vs. PC, I can’t help but think that those damn “Hi I’m a Mac”"and I’m a PC” commercials worked. Every time I saw one I had to watch. Not sure if it’s because I thought I was going to learn something new and that would convince me to buy a Mac or if I just find them entertaining (which they are purely for their genius). When it comes down to it you can’t help but identify with the Mac character.

Those marketing guys at Apple know what they’re doing. They know who their audience is: guys like me who are not that young anymore and want something to make them feel young and hip again. In fact maybe the Apple marketing team is so good that they have me thinking that I’m the guy they are marketing to when really they are marketing to everyone. Anyway, they got me and I’m glad they did.

I love this machine. Everything from the monitor to the dock to the keyboard and mouse…it all just feels right. I haven’t even scratched the surface of all the software yet. I love the dashboard and I’m just about to set up my iChat which looks really cool. I guess it’s the little things that are impressing me the most as I get to know my Mac.
